About ICDS Anganwadi?

ICDS Anganwadi is a part of India's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program, which is a social welfare scheme that aims to improve the health, nutrition, and education of children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers:

ICDS : The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program was launched in 1975 to address malnutrition and health issues in children under 6, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. The program also aims to reduce school dropout and mortality rates.

Anganwadi : The word "Anganwadi" means "courtyard shelter" in Indian languages. Anganwadi centers are staffed with frontline workers and are mainly established in rural areas.

Some of the activities and interventions carried out under the ICDS program include: Monthly health and nutrition education sessions, Weighing of children, Maintaining growth charts for children, Identifying growth faltering and counseling caregivers, and Providing a Mother and Child Protection card to each mother.

What Posts Come Under ICDS Anganwadi?

The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme includes the following posts:

ICDS Anganwadi Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the position of Anganwadi Worker (AWW) or Anganwadi Helper (AWH) under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of the local village

  • Have a minimum qualification of Matriculation

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35

AWWs and AWHs are honorary workers who receive a monthly honorarium from the government. The amount of the honorarium varies depending on the type of Anganwadi center where the worker is employed. For example, in West Bengal, AWWs receive an honorarium of ₹4,500 per month at main Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) and ₹3,500 per month at mini-AWCs. AWHs receive an honorarium of ₹7,000 per month. In addition to the honorarium, AWWs and AWHs may also receive performance-linked incentives.

ICDS Anganwadi Salary

The salary of Anganwadi workers and helpers (AWW and AWH) varies by state and may include allowances:

West Bengal : As of August 2024, the salary for an AWW is Rs 9,000 per month and for an AWH is Rs 7,000 per month. In March 2024, the Chief Minister of West Bengal announced a salary hike for ICDS workers.
